With an equestrian history that spans more than 100 years, Ox Ridge Hunt Club, located at 512 Middlesex Rd. in Darien, welcomes Laura O’Connor as its new head trainer. O’Connor brings outstanding credentials as one of the equestrian world’s top trainers, and a highly accomplished rider, according to officials for the club.
The new head trainer has won numerous competitions including Spruce Meadows during the North American Tournament, where O’Connor captured both the Chrysler Derby and the Queen Elizabeth Cup during the same weekend — a feat never matched by another woman — and she has the distinction of being named Leading Lady Rider for three consecutive years. She won the AHSA Medal Finals and placed 6th in the Maclay finals in Madison Square Garden, and has proudly represented the U.S. internationally.
Laura, joined by young trainer, Kara Burgess, brings experience and a fresh energy to managing the full spectrum of equestrian programs at the club, club spokespersons say.
Ox Ridge Hunt Club has hosted a number of nationally recognized horse shows, and has produced numerous well-known riders. The club offers an upgraded horse barn, beautiful grass paddocks, and new riding rings with top-of-the-line footing. Developments are underway to expand the club’s equestrian programs, and a newly renovated clubhouse that will include squash, fitness, and dining. For more information about the programs and new rates, which go into effect September 1, call 203-655-2559 or visit oxridge.com.
